Reusable Swim Diapers

,

Well, its finally hot here in Michigan!  The cooler summer weve been having has not kept our girls out of the pool and, today, I decided it was finally warm enough for me to swim.  Swimming is actually not an accurate term for what we do in our four-foot deep pool, but we all enjoy the water.  And thanks to our solar heater, solar cover and new wood-burning pool heater, the pool is bearable!  It cracks me up how hard we work just to swim in our pool in southeastern Michigan.  But Todd and I both had pools growing up and we just had to have one for our girls, too.

We found our pool on Craigslist a couple years ago.  It is a Doughboy pool, which we found out is a pool that is very well-made.  It was one of those "you tear it down yourself" deals.  I am not going to say it was the easiest thing to take down, and remember how it all went together, but it definitely saved us a ton of money doing it that way.  Todd built a deck around it, and weve all enjoyed it quite a bit.

Heres the deal, folks.  We should all be using cloth diapers, really.  They make so much more sense than disposable diapers if you think about it.  But if youre not ready to use them just yet, let me suggest you try using them as swim diapers.  It will make you feel good about contributing less landfill waste.  And they do just as good a job as the disposable swim diapers.  Just remember to take out the absorbent pad.

We chose the Alva brand and theyve been working out great.  Amazon has great deals on cloth diapers, too.  Two Alva diapers cost around $12.  One package of disposable swim diapers costs about the same price.

They pay for themselves, and you dont have anything to throw away.

Except for the......well, you know.
